Our bootcamps and mentorships are a great way to learn and get hired. But what if you’re not ready to commit to a paid program? Free Community Meetup Days are gatherings held every other Saturday here at Sharptop.

What are the benefits of attending a Community Meetup Day?

We host free professional instruction and provide hands-on assistance with learning projects and professional projects alike. Learners of all levels are able to come together to listen, learn, and share their knowledge with others. It’s also a great way to get to know other developers and receive feedback from like-minded people.

Group Study time at our first Community Meetup Day

Group Study time at our first Community Meetup Day

Two weeks ago, we held our first Free Community Meetup Day. We had 15 beginner and experienced coders show up to hear instructor Caner Uguz give an overview of the full-stack development process. Then many of us were able to collaborate on various projects and discuss questions and problems we have experienced as we learn.

Our community days are set up with a flexible schedule to maximize the amount of learning done in a short period of time. Here’s how the day is scheduled out:

Coding Lesson

First we have a 20-minute time of instruction by an expert developer.

Working as a Developer

The next 15 minutes are spent talking about professional aspects of coding, such as finding a job, how to prepare for an interview, working on a team etc.

Lightning Talks

Lightning talks are 10 minute presentations from one or two volunteer participants who present on a topic they’ve been working on.

Group Study

This is a 75 minute group study session. During this time one or more developers will be able to answer any questions you may have. Members can continue to work on their own projects either by themselves or with a group.

We think Community Meetup Days are the most valuable asset in Lynchburg for learners and developers alike. What do you have to lose? Come join us this Saturday, December 5th from 10am-12pm, or on any Meetup Saturday in the near future. We promise you won’t regret it.
